I have 2 cleanable, reusable K&N high flow filters, which I alternate. If I can use them with the S&S, it would be great.
Can you explain how they can be used even though you say they are wider? Where do the spacers fit, etc. I wonder if I can buy just the spacers.
Thanks!
The spacers (stand offs) screw into (red locktite) the holes the original 3 screws go into, then the stand off portion has threads to accept the original screws (blue locktite). Not sure if you can buy the spacers seperately, but you need to have the filters for the S&S. there are the standard high flow, which are like stock, and the extra highflow, which are wider, hence the need for the stand offs. If you have any friends that work in a machine shop, or have a lathe in their garage, they could make them easilly out of some hex stock. (I'd use stainless, but that's just me) but they came with the filter when I bought it and it was like $10 cheaper than the one that replaces the stock one, on sale.
The stand-offs are available from J&P cycles. I bought the stand-offs when I got the 3" K&N air filter. Had to go to the local hardware store for longer screws for the cover. Screws that came with the kit were too short. Got some stainless steel screws.
Thanks guys. Guess all I have to do now is buy the kit and see if my existing K&N high flow filters fit as is or if I need the standoffs. If I can use my existing filters I don't think I'll have to redo the remap I had done when getting new pipes, SE breather and the K&N's.
Turns out the filters I have are not 3" and they're not K&N. They are HD part #29442-99D. They are the cleanable, reusable, non-oiled filters. Measurements are 2 3/8" deep, 6 3/8" across at the base, 5 1/2" across at the top. There are three holes, which makes me think it may work as a standard replacement for the K&N filter too, without the standoff adapters, as long as the holes are the same pattern and the S&S dimpled cover does not hit the metal filter top. These are 2 1/4" between holes, measuring from hole center to hole center.
Can anyone tell me if it looks like my current filters will work? It would save some $$ to not have to remap.
If my current filter does not work, I guess I can always try the stock one that comes with the S&S kit. If I have to remap, I think I'd rather buy a Power Command module this time to save on future remaps.
Thanks
