Quick Tire Fix
If you put slime in the tubeless tires, when you go to get a permanent patch put on the slime will make a huge mess. Spoke with Dunlop and they told me plugs are temporary, but enough til you get a patch. Patch from the inside for permanent fix.
Back in ’99 when I bought my first Harley, a ’93 Sportster, it had laced wheels. I heard somewhere that most flats, both on cars and bikes, are on the rear tire. The front tire runs over and turns ‘up’ the nail, screw, etc., and the rear tire gets it.
Made sense to me, cause I’d had a flat years ago while riding my Yamaha 650 Special….. on the rear tire. That was long before cell phones so I had to wait till a friend rode his bike home and got his pickup.
A friend had just put slots on his Fatboy so I bought the rear wheel, had it polished smooth, and put it on my Sportster. I bought a CO2 inflator and a plug kit. Good to go? Right?
Wrong? I had a flat on the front tire!!! Ran over the short end of an allen head wrench that must have been in a crack in a parking lot. Had to call a friend with a trailer, dammit.
So I bought a Harley LightingStar front wheel to take care of that problem.
Now I’ve got a ’02 Heritage with stock laced wheels. I just bought a HD Chrome Fatboy wheel for the rear as I’m gonna be needing a rear tire soon. I’ll take care of the front when I need a tire.
The CO2 inflator does work. Soon after I bought the kit, my son had a flat on his car. I found the nail, pulled it, plugged it, and it took 2 CO2 cartridges to pump up the tire.
