I have my bikes hooked up to a Battery Tender 24/7 when I am not riding. I know that the tender has a fuse in the line between the plug and the battery but I was wondering if this is enough to protect my bikes from lighting? My house has been struck directly twice from lighting in the past four years. Once a direct hit to the chimney that got just about everything in my house. I know that some electronics aren't supposed to be connected to a surge protector and I was wondering if you would connect a battery tender to one.
+1 on that, no simple surge protector is going to protect you from damage of a direct lightning strike.
+2
However, surge protectors are pretty cheap. While it won't necessarily protect from a direct lightning strike, it can protect electrical equipment from a surge generated by a lightning strike (or any other issue) which interferes with power distribution elsewhere.
Thanks guys. I will plug them into a surge protector tonight. I do unplug during storms if I am at home, but there are times during the day that no one is at home. I'm not so worried about the battery tenders themselves, but my bike's electrical system.
