Default Deluxe saddlebag removal....

Question, I’m going to remove (finally) those silly little factory saddlebags from my Deluxe. No offence to the people that like them, but they are way to small for my needs and I just don’t care for the way they look on the bike. My question is: How difficult is it to remove the “lunchbox” sized HD hard bags and the brackets from my Deluxe? Are there any tips or tricks that those of you that have done it can share? What tools? Any tricks to removing the passenger pegs? Appreciate the help. LP

All I needed was a good set of torx wrenches....The bolts also behind the passenger pegs are torx bolts, so having a variety of sizes helps...(sure wish they used allen wrenches, but oh well)...
I wasn't crazy about the bags either...bought them one day on Ebay and sold them the next day...
Good Luck~

They are easy to remove. Remember they are attached with blue locktite and may be a little snug. Need a good set of sockets and as "cjmilez" says a suppy of torx sockets. Don't be shy just jump in a do it and you will be very satisfied when you sit back and say man, I did that and it came out great!

I wonder if they make T-handle torx drivers those would save so much time when working on a Harley. You just break loose the torx with the socket and then spin it out with the T-handle torx driver. I have the allen head T-handle drivers and they are a great time saver. Guess you could do the same thing with a Makita and really speed up the process.

Easy as pie....Just need what the folks said above and little elbow grease.

Be sure to have a towel on hand and cover the chome/paint while you work so you don't get any scratches if you slip.

I’m with you CJ, allen heads would be a lot more user friendly. However, allen heads
are just as easy to round out as the torx are IMHO.

Softail2005: I have a air compressor and I’ve seriously thought about investing
in a good impact wrench it would diffenately make wrenching on the bike a lot
easier.

Blue: Good suggestion about covering up things you don’t want to scratch up,
I know sometimes I can be a real klutz.

Thanks for tips!
