Rex from Carlini just called me back. Their stiff riser bushings are black. He said it sound like your risers are not tight enough as they have never heard of anyone having this much lay before. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. Drew
I'm looking for the "hardest", most solid riser bushings I can find. I just installed some "extreme" bushings from Carlini and they are no more stiff than the old stockers I took out. Kind of disappointing actually. With 14" apes, I can get over 6" of travel! I know there's added leverage with apes, but over 6"??!!
I'm tempted to have a set solid aluminum bushings spun up, unless I can find a MUCH better solution than what I have... Any ideas as to where to look?
Without sounding like a smart azz,, are you sure the bars are " clamped " tightly enough ( with the lack of knurling ) in the riser ?

If these are their stiff bushings, I'd hate to see how soft the standard ones are. And yes... These are as tight as I dared to go without risking stripping the riser itself.
No doubt about it... These bushings gotta go!! The excessive "give" to these soft bushings is, in my opinion, unsafe. So... Unless you can help me out, it appears I just bought a set of nice shiney washers...

Oh yeah??!! Gonna be a smart azz are ya??!! Well you go right ahead!!
LOL!! Just kidding...
Seriously though... Good point. Sometimes even the best wrench can space out the little things.
The Carlini risers are solid as a rock!! The bars don't move in the clamps at all. And if they did, I know how to fix that. All this movement is caused by the extremely soft bushings. If I give them a decent shove or pull, I can get the washers to come in contact with the triple!! And that ain't right.
I saw your write up of your ape install!! VERY Nice!!
Even with poly, there must be a little "give" to them... Right? How much "front to back" wobble are in yours with 18's?
Thanks for the compliment...
There is some "give" front to back, but very little. No more then a 1/2" travel to and fro. Seems to me that its tight enough to be safe and effective, but enough give to tell me that they are doing their job.
And I tightened he risers down GOOD!
Im not a fan of a solid riser IMHO. Their are bushing their for a reason, So ya dont jar your fillings out! Seems if the design was meant for something solid... there would be somthing solid.

What can I do to make this right for you? Let me know. Shoot me a PM, or just shoot me. LOL. Drew
