I read a thread on here saying that there is a good chance that the black oil tank on my 04 fxst might be chrome ,so i took the battery out and put a little stripper on the tank,and its not chrome,bummer.

Well it sounds like you ought to be looking for a good used chrome one. I'm sure there's several out there. Just check the classifieds here and on other sites. Definitely cheaper than buying a new one or trying to have yours chromed.

 

Hey JM. When I first started stripping me I was bummed also. I stripped a small small and it did not look chrome. It actually was, but the powder coat was just so think it took a couple coats of aircraft stripper to get down to the chrome. I said f-it pulled the whole thing off the bike and laid a huge glob on stripper on the front on the tank. After it sat my eyes lit up CHROME! Don't be discrouraged I had a very similar experience.

 

thanks for the replys guys,im going to keep stripping the same spot a couple more times to make sure im threw the powder coat.
