I found a 98 fat boy with 49k on it, Dealer is wanting 6900 for it...Its got a CUSTOM PAINT JOB THAT DOES HAVE A FLAW ...HAS BARS, CUSTOM MIRROR, ENGINE GUARDS, HWY PEGS, S&S CARB, CHROME FRONT END, BRAIDED CABLES, GRIPS, SUPER TRAPP EXHAUST.... The paint isnt to much of a concern, I can take care of that, Im curious as to the price of it though, and it does have 50k miles on it, This would be my 1st harley, Id feel a little more comfortable working on it and taking it apart opposed to taking apart a bike that I pay 14 or 15k for, Im just looking for some advice from the pros here.... thanks fellas...
I love EVOs and 50K is nothing for them but I'd want to know the maintenance record if possible. They often need a top end refresh at those miles. I'm not a fan of "custom" paint and the other stuff you listed are just bolt on items for the most part. How are the tires and brakes, they can set you back. If you love the bike then that's all that matters, price is reasonable but if you look around you can get lower mileage and newer for just a tad more if you don't mind riding a twinkie..LOL
Thanks for the reply, the bike is actually at a dealer near by, I say near by, I have 3 dealers that are all an hr an a half away, and this is one of them... Havent actually laid eyes on the bike yet, just saw it on their site.....Like I said this will be my 1st HD and I wasnt even aware that the bike had the EVO.... thanks for the that heads up....anybody else have an opinion???
can you put a pic of it up here? it's a tough call, definately demo the bike first. In fact, demo a couple so you have something to judge it by. good luck.
I have a 98 Fatboy and you will love the bike and the engine. The bike is a "big twin" Evolution motor. The motor before the current twin cam design motor. It they are taken care of they last forever. Things you will probably want to look at is the base gaskets to see if there is oil. By 98 this was taken care of by some improvements to the motor, but they can still leak. The other thing is the cam bearing needs to be replaced.
evo's are great! u'll love their sound!!! but as said before... u gotta watch out to see if it "marks it's territory" too often... Mine does, but it's a 95 and it was stated that the leakage was improved somewhat after
Great starter bike!! u really can get some power out of it
