I am taking the fuel tank off of my heritage and selling it..what is the best way as for as getting the tank ready to ship after I remove the fuel, should I clean it out with anything or just tape over the fuel pump opening and box it..thanks

Tape over and box it. Wrap it in bubble wrap and put it in a nice sturdy box.

I would let it air out as long as possible before boxing it up. Fumes are extremely explosive.

I agree with Ironass on this one. Let it air out for a day or two and then send it.

I would call the nearest HD dealers and ask if they have an empty box around from a new fuel tank. When I got my "new" tank shipped to me, it arrived in a big box from HD which had a molded foam in it that held the tank. Might be a bit more expensive in shipping, but will guarantee save arrival ... If they drop it from the truck a bit of bubble wrap is not going to protect it. The box my tank arrived in was crushed on one corner, I feared the worst, but the tank was unhurt.

If you can't find a good box, U-Haul storage sells real sturdy boxes. Shipped a paint set back and forth without any trouble. Use lots of bubble wrap, peanuts, paper, etc. so it doesn't move in the box.
