I went for the mini-apes from the X-Bones. They fit with no mods and I used the original cables.

I am currently looking at bars for my '09 CVO Springer and have been debating on the same deal. Whether to go with apes or drag bars but I think I am going to try a set of drag bars(straight) on some taller risers(4-6" maybe). My other bike has apes so I am looking for something a little different. Plus the apes make me sit straight up and it is a little tiring for me without a windshield or a backrest.

If you decide beachbars take a look at CycleSmiths's 40" or BurlyBrand 38.5" which i run.

Both bars are wide with nice bends to them.
