Help! Installing handlebar speakers...
I installed Kuryakyn Sound of Chrome speakers on my Heritage and I struggled to find a place for the noise filter under the seat. I settled on a little spot behind the oil tank that seemed pretty safe.
BIG MISTAKE! I went for a little ride and within a half-hour, the music just stopped. To my dismay, the noise filter was damaged. One wire is completly cut and another one partly. I'm so disappointed since I thought I had done such a good job installing the whole thing. The instructions are very vague on the location of the noise filter. They say "Find a screw on the bike where nothing is moving and not too hot". I know they have to be generic to accomodate all kinds of different bikes and I thought I was so smart.
So for those of you who have installed something similar on a Softail:
where the h$ck do you hide the noise filter??
Kuryakyn wants $50 US + shipping (to Canada) for a new wire so I'm hoping I can fix the one I broke.

I installed a sound system with a noise filter. The instructions said you may not need it. I didn't put it in and things were good without it. So try your system without it and see how it is. Good luck, hope it works for you.

Like fox said. Otherwise, if its just the wire can you splice it to make it longer again? Radio Shack has noise filters. Noise filters are very basic, usually just a capacitor. Check the amperage of your stereo and get one that will support it. Show us a pic and maybe we can save you $50.

Thanks for the replies. The noise filter is glued to the wire harness. See the picture. I would have to cut the wires from each side and re-attach them together.
I don't think I want to remove it from the wire since that would be a non-reversible move.
Anyone knows where I can hide this box?

From your pix looks like it may be just a ground that got cut. You can try taking a jumper wire & reconnect the black wire (bypassing your filter) & see if that workks. It doesnt look like you have enough wire from your filter to reattach. AS for where to hide it look for somewhere around your battery thats deep enough for the filter & attach with wire ties & make sure your seat wont pinch any wires.
Yes, difficult to fix that. I would try just under the frame where the battery ground is bolted too. Just where the frame tubes split from one into two pieces, under the front part of the seat. Or, extend the wires and mount behind the mud gaurd, in front of rear tire or behind head light, behind the headlight tins. Dont be afraid to extend the wires, just use the same wire gauge.
Again, try without installing it first.

When I first hid it, I put it under the seat behind the oil tank and it seemed pretty safe. Once I fix the connections (I'll call in a few favors from my brother), I'll try to put it where the tubes split. I remember seeing a gap there. I should have followed that lead...
Thanks for the help!
