Default 2001 Night Train signals flash?

Helping out a co-worker. He bought bike second hand, no key FOBwhen he picked up bike so assume it has no factory alarm. When you turn it to ignition, the flashers flash 6 times. Bike will start and run normal. Bike shuts off normal. Any ideas?

has to have a security system. That's the only reason the lights would flash. Pull your seat up, you should be able to see it.

Really? That's a new one on me, but why does it do that?
I would have guessed that there was a security system installed in the bike, but its been turned off.
That way the bike still operates and runs OK with the key and switch, but every time you turn it off it will make the lights blink several times.
If the bike was newer with the verson II security system I would have suggested pulling off the seat to see if someone had ziptied the fob under it.

Funny, I just went out to the garage to test my bike to see how many times it blinks the lights.
Turned it on and it started to blink the turn signals, and unless I turn it off it won't stop. Also the starter won't engage.
I think my battery is going bad. It has been on the tender for the last 4 or 5 months and I just unplugged it last week. It started up and ran fine then, but now the tender shows it needs a charge.
Gonna have to get out the meter to double check it, but after almost 4 years I'm guessing the battery is probably going bad.
