Default Hey Springer Owners?????

Is there any truth to the statements that people make regarding the front suspension of a Springer being "expensive & troublesome to maintain?

I love the Softail Springer Classic models!

Alien,

I have only had mine a month & just completed the first 1000 mile service. It was no more expensive than a std. TC88. I do believe the maintenance schedule is more frequent for the Springer according to the manual. I love my Springer Classic & if it costs a little more...I'm not to worried.

My dealer told me that the Springer needs a service (front end) at 2,500 mile intervals - other Softails at 5,000 miles.

My service peeps didn't mention any extra maintenance needed. Just the every 5,000 checkup. Guess I'll see what they say about the every 2,500 for the Springer. Maybe that's for older models?

The front end on a springer must be maintained every 2500 miles. Normal service every 5000.

I've over 38,000 on my '03 and just do the regular 5,000 services. Every other service I have the mechanic check the springer and make sure everything is tight and adjusted properly. The only time the mechanic commented on the front end being out of adjustment was after two 1,500 mile trips back to back and over some pretty rough roads.

In my earier post I mentioned 2,500 mile front end services. This is according to the H-D web site. I spoke to a H-D mechanic yestarday and he said that the 2,500 front end service is not needed. He did say that the neck must be greased every 2,500 miles. He also said that on the older springer models the 2,500 mile service was needed because there was allot of bearing and race problems in the neck.
