05 Fatboy with Screamin Eagle slip ons.
I have a small but annoying leak at the joint. Clamp is tight but I cant get the damn thing to seal. You cant hear it but I can feel it.
Leave it alone?
Will it cause any issues other than the annoying leak?
Thanks
you can use some high temp copper sealant to stop it. make sure the clamps are torqued properly (65lbs,I think). or you can leave it, it wont hurt anything but could discolor the chrome over time. do you have new H-D clamps on there?
I have the original clamps. Cant see that being the issue but you never know. I assume to put the sealant on I have to pull it all apart. It doesnt bother me that bad at this time. I just had the dealer put on rear pads and check the tensioners so I assume they had the pipes off. I really dont want to tear it down again.
I had the same problem as well. Copper high temp sealer/silicone fixed it...just put a thin coat and it should be good to go.
Now, I haven't tried to take the pipes off since doing that and I'm not sure what that will do if you ever want to disassemble the pipes. I'm hoping it didn't cement the pipes together at the joint!!!
That would be NO BUENO but the price I had to pay to seal those joints.
could try moving clamp a little to make sure it is clamping on pipe not just on slip on
Harley recommends replacing the clamps each time you take them off. I have done it both way, replaced and not replaced. My findings were that Ultra Copper took care of it and a new clamp was not always necessary.
