Default Useless Deluxe rack

I love the look of my luggage rack on my deluxe, but with the sissy bar on, I can't get anything on it.

Anyone know of a longer one available somewhere? I've thought of having mine made longer and re-chromed, but I have no idea how to go about that stuff.
I definately couldn't do the work myself.

I have a couple sissy bar bags, but I have to use them on the seat because they hang off the end of the rack.

Any ideas? Anyone know how to get metalwork done on the relatively cheap? What might I be looking at cost-wise to have the tubes cut/extended and the whole thing rechromed?
Do I need to strip the old chrome first?

Thanks!

Yes, I agree the rack is not very usefull. Here is a picture that I took when the wife and I took off to the Soap Lake Rally last year in Washington State. Big TourPak and two up riding.

Where is your license plate at? My bag would sit on the plate if I did that.

I plan on putting on a layback, but want to figure out this rack first.

Thanks for the picture.

My license plate is under the bag. When first put on things are fine but after bouncing down the road the bag hangs over the plate about halfway. Doesn't bother me and I have not been stopped yet. I suppose you could make a platform to fit on the stock rack that would add 4-5 inches square and that would solve the problem . I might look into that as a fix.

I did think about putting the big rack for the rear matching tour box on the back, but then you lose the backrest unless you buy the very expensive Harley matching tour box. I think that is another $600+

Looking back the best option for folks who want to tour is to buy the Heirtage. Big rack, better seat, large bags, windshield all for free.

I bought the tour pak but I have it setup for solo so I have a backrest....I will say for the rider (or passenger) it is a nice backrest.

I've been seeing the T-bags and thinking thy have more packing room. Then decided hubby could carry that

Even the full dresser doesn't really fit right because of the angle of the sissy bar.

The rack has about 4" of usefull space.

I can make it work, but I'd really like to make the rack longer, or buy one just like it that was longer.

I guess I'll have to call around to metal fab shops and see what it would take to modify one. Maybe I can pick one up on ebay for not too much.

There are two luggage racks that are sold out of the catalog that bolt up to the sissybar. Then it becomes all one piece when you take the sissybar off. It's set up to slip over the square opening where the sissybar ends slide into and it all screws together. Plenty of clearance to the fender.
I got tired of the saggy bag syndrome over the license plate. We bought a medium size travel suitcase with wheels and handle. Fits just as much stuff in it as the bag, I lay it sideways across the luggage rack, attach a small duffel bag on top of that and bungee cord the entire thing to the luggage rack. Travels great, easy to mess with when stopped for the day. I no longer care about how it looks and quite a few of our long distance group do the same thing with medium suitcases.
