Default Stage II advice

I have three questions:

1. I'm considering having the Stage II kit put on my 2006 Heritage classic. Not quite happy with the Stage I performance, looking for a little more highway throttle response. Would you install the Stage II if you could do it over, or would you take another route?

2. What would a cam do for me? Is it worth the $$?

3. I'd like to replace the inner primar with the chrome one, how much maintenance and bike destruction am I looking at...if any?

Go test ride an '07 and you will probably be close to what you will end up with, with maybe the exception of the effect of the stage II cams. The total claimed stage II horsepower difference over stock is 15 hp. Stage I is 8-10 I think.

Personally, I think you would notice the difference for about two months, then it would seem normal. If I wanted to feel the difference for the duration, then a 103 kit would be the minimum... or a completely different engine by revtech or s&s... You need 25 horsepower over stock to say... man, this bike goes and has about all I need, I think, personally.

Or, go ride a V-Rod to see what a real difference feels like...

Or, go ride a Victory Vegas with a stage II kit on it. When I bought my '06 Harley I looked for a long, long time at a Victory. They are definitely peppier... and look really good, too. They just don't have the years of backing and secondary market support. That was a tradeoff that I eventually decided against.

My approach, since I have a family to support, is to wait until I put enough miles on mine that I have to rebuild the engine. Then, I will go with a 103 kit at a minimum.

I did a stage I so that I could have the sound that I wanted. I am forcing myself to remain happy with the horsepower and torque.

I'd have to disagree with C#...the 95 stage II kit w/ the SE cams is like night & day. IMO it was worth every penny. The torque increase is pretty substantial and I had mine installed for $2200. You WILL NOT get the same power out of the new 96 incher...it is only 3.2 ft lbs of torque more, 500 rpm earlier.

Sold my V-rod for my Springer Classic...no doubt its fast but it is a slug under 5500 RPMs and the real power doesn't kick in until over 6500 rpm. The V-rod relies on top end HP as opposed to the torque of the air heads.
