Anyone taken their forks apart to replace the lower legs? I want to have mine powder coated black. Seems less expensive then buying the HD black fork legs. I already have a lift, tools, etc. I was looking at my service manual and it seems like a big job according to the diagrams. Just wanted to get some feedback from someone who has done it.
Also, any opinions on how the black lower legs with Chrome upper forks and Chrome Nacelle will look. I already have some black accents (i.e. engine guards, axle covers, control housings, etc.) so I thought the black lower legs would really set it off.
It's pretty easy, but you need an air gun to remove/replace the allen bolt on the bottom. A piece of pcv pipe split down the middle works to seat the fork seal (make sure you oil the pipe first or it will be a wrestling match getting it back off).
