Default Help with speedo problem

I have a 1999 Heritage Softail that had an intermitent speedo issue last year. It would work then it would get stuck or read 1/2 speed. So I just finished my winter mods and changed out the speed sensor on Sunday.
Took it out for a ride, speedo worked fine. Cleaned the bike, and then family showed up so it sat for the afternoon. Started out for a quick blast and now speedo is stuck @ 0 mph, backlight is on and odometer is out.
Any thoughts

Since you already replaced the speed sensor I would guess that the speedo itself went bad.

I believe the dealer has a tool for testing the speedo so you'll know for sure before buying a new one.

And theres always the possibility that your new sensor was bad from the factory, but I'm pretty sure things like that only happen to me.

Good luck

Actually I had the exact same issue with my speedo. When I had my motor work done, one of the wires that comes from the counsel back to the battery, I don't remember which one it was...anyway... It had gotten pinched between the seat and the rail, it wasn't routed properly after the motor was back in. Simple fix, just found the short, spliced the wire...blamo, back in business. Of course they already ordered me a speedo, saying mine was shot...effers! Check those wires, it sounds exactly the same as what mine was doing. Work sometimes, sometimes a lil...sometimes none. Hope that helps.
