Was riding around town today running some errands. Everything was
working fine. Stopped by my wifes work to say hello. When I left the
the speedometer had stopped working.
I have a 2004 Softail FSXT. Can anyone let me know how to check what
the problem is. If its the speedometer itself or if its something else. I
don't want to just replace the speedometer and hope thats it. Would
like to figure it out and only replace one thing. Not replace everything
hoping to find what is wrong.
It isn't a big deal to change out a speedo so find a buddy who has the same model series and year that you have and borrow his speedo to see if it works. If it does, then you get to buy a new speedo. If it doesn't, then you get to chase gremlins, starting with the ignition switch and the wires from the ECM.
Mine failed at about 35k.
P.S. It doesn't mean anything if the speedo does the WOW test. It still can be bad.
Wow!!! The first thing that I would do is check under my dash and make sure all the connections are clean and have dielectric grease on them... time for pm anyway. Check all your fuses as well.
