jp cycles sells 2 inch seat springs. when placed side by side they are the same height but under load the 2" springs compress alot more. you should take that plastic seat pan off and have it painted. i did and you cant tell its plastic, looks like metal.you can also lower the rear.
i love the stock seat, with 2 inch springs.i think its the nicest looking seat out there. but i am also thinking of a new seat to set me lower "in" the bike.if you do go this route, you may want to hold off on the risers untill you see just how much lower it seats you. i say this because without the seat on and sitting on the seat pan, i find the bars are pretty high.
just a few things to consider.

its all about change. try a different seat and if you dont like it change it. I think most Harley are a work in progress. just when i think i have it where i want another change. Thats why i shop the hd-forums classified.

This a personal preference, I think the stock spring seat looks like complete crap. I also don't think spring seats belong on a softail, they belong on rigids, once again a personal preference.

I bought the Xbones for the blacked out look and springer front end. I also went with blue vs. the more popular flat black because I want my bike to appear more modern than an old skool bobber.

The seat pan comes right off and the Xbones accepts most softail seats....not sure what you are talking about slanting backwards and uncomfortable

Seat fits like it's supposed to and comfortable

I had 2" springs on the stock seat and was pretty happy with it but went with a different seat to get lower. Current seat did this so well I went back to the stock 3" springs.
Next test is Outer Banks bike week next week to test for comfort, it's 700 miles round trip. The seat is actually very comfortable, you would never guess by looking at it.

Snook, I had that exact setup on my night train. It was comfortable.
I ordered the 2" springs and would like to try the 1925 seat, I like the looks of it a lot better and would like the additional 1" drop.
I wish this bike had the fatboy rear fender and a full front fender. I just can't get used to the old school springer front end with the bikini fender just looks queer to me.

I don't think the bars would be to high my Rat King has 18's on it and I love them!!

Default I have the 1925 seat on my Bones.

I agree with you on trying to stick with a sprung seat and that with any other type of seat you end up with just another softail. The Bones may not be a rigid frame but the idea behind the design was to try to emulate that look so the idea that a sprung seat doesn't belong is ludicrous. I might agree with statement if it had exposed shocks like a Dyna or Sporty.

I have the 1925 seat with the stock springs. I am 5' 9" and weigh 225 and I have a 30' inseam. I don't know but I find it quite comfortable. I can make some long-@$$ rides on my Bones with no ill effects at all. I actually went with the 1925 just for looks. However, when I tried to go back to the stock seat because I thought I could use the extra padding on an extra long trip that I was making, I realized as soon as I sat on it again that there was no way I could go back to the stock seat! I didn't think it was bad to begin with, but after having that extra 1 1/2" of drop I found it hard to go back to the height of the stock seat. I have to imagine that it would feel even nicer with the two inch springs. I thought about doing that but I worried that the lower springs would only lower the seat to the back since it is bolted at the front. I thought this might cause it to feel like I would be spilling off the back of the seat. I guess I would like to know what you think about the 2 inch springs if you get them on your bike. If your review is positive, I might give it a shot since it is not really an expensive or hard swap to do.

I like the bikini fender on the Bones. I wish that the rear fender was more like what is on a Street Bob. When I got my Bones I loved the whole bike, but like many people, that rear fender has just begun to irritate me. I though about putting on a swing arm mounted bobber fender from Shade Tree Fabricators but my wife like's riding with me to much. Now I plan instead to replace the rear fender with one off a fatboy and the front one with one off a Springer Classic. Like I said, I like the front fender but it would look even sillier with a full skirted Fatboy fender on the back. I already eBayed both fenders and just need to wait on a free weekend to throw a denim paint job on them and I will be good to go!

Good luck with everything and enjoy your Bones!

Skeez
I like your idea about the fenders, hopefully my lower springs will be here by saturday. I'll let you know how they work out. I feel like the stock arrangement is trying to push me forward when stopped as it is so I'm hoping that the 1" drop in the rear of the seat will correct some of this. It seems like this bike sits higher in the rear than my Night train IDK. I would like to lower the ***-end a little too. Keep us posted on your progress with the fenders.

I went with 2 inch springs, and I definitely bottom out once in a while, but it's not too bad. It's definitely worth the look of the lower springs. Keep in mind that I am 6'1" and 250 pounds.
