Hey Misbehaven, is it just me or are you also kinda itching to get higher bars? I originally got the 16" bars (if I remember right I am about an inch or two taller than you) and at the time they were perfect. But now that I've had them for so long, I am starting to get an inch for my arms to be up higher and I want some 18s (specifically 18" Carlini Gangster Apes). It very well may just be me wanting to change something because I can't leave anything well enough alone, but I have heard this same thing from other guys who have had apes for a couple years.
yeah i don't have a clue where my stock risers are.. probably in a box still attached to the handlebars in my old man's attic or something.. maybe i'll take a trip up there and find them. I don't even remember what they look like..they're chrome, right? could probably send them out for powdercoat to black. This is going to be my winter project. Along with maybe some grinding, welding, bending, shaping, and molding a new exhaust for myself.
Bagging my Lo is just way out of my price range right now..with all the parts and stuff i was looking anywhere from $300-800. So I contacted New Castle HD out in PA and bought a sissybar instead (that tall one that Dave has on page 1 of this thread.. that, with the combination of the luggage rack I have will let me use a big enough piece of luggage to tie it to the bike for my week long trip coming up.. should be thrilling. Especially if my engine doesn't explode.
Hey..so the Michelin Commander II's have been out for some time now.. for those who have them, are you still loving them? I suppose I could find a thread on it in a few minutes..
Soft collapsable bags are the best. I even have the short sissy bar, so the straps that come with these things, you can really tie them every which way you want.
Yeah I recently got that luggage rack on the shorter sissy bar. When it was just me riding I'd just strap it on the inside of the sissy bar. But it's nice to strap a bag to when you're toting a lady around too.
I've got a pair of soft throw over saddle bags too if it's a real long trip.

Hold your horses there Jim... The one the original Dave has is not the tall one... It is actually quite a bit shorter. The one he has is the one I have (or I guess vise-versa since he had it first and I picked his brain about it). These ones are hard mount, not quick detach. They come in chrome, not black (had to PC it). And, they were originally from a 2007 Softail Custom and were meant for the King and Queen seat. If this comes out sounding like a smart ***, my appologies, it is not intentional (you can't put emphasis, meaning or sarcasm into text). This is just to differentate the 2 in case you may have ordered a part you did not intend to.

that's the one I ordered.. the tall quick-detach one in black that the ends need to be ground down so i dont have to relocate the turn signals.. and actually now that im looking back at page 1, Dave's pictures aren't loading anymore, so i can't justify my comment of "its the one dave has/had"
Edit:
Oh, maybe I should have gotten this one, that user JakesDad1 has:
The tall sissy bar was definately awesome for long trips. I do not run a fender bib or passenger seat though. After a few times of not putting something under my bag and it started to scratch the paint. So now I just bite the bullet and pack light. Soon enough I'll go smooth struts and won't be tempted to use it.
