Default flush mount fuel gauge install

Has anyone installed the digital flush mount fuel gauge on their lo? Instructions are fairly straight forward but something about working with wiring in gas is sketchy for me despite having the battery disconnected. Any tips or experiences are appreciated. The fuel cap was a breeze and looks great.

I am also looking for a turn signal re-locator for the front because I do not want them on my apes.

(the last photo was prior to me making some more cosmetic modifications, which is why it looks funny)..

What do you mean Piston Risers? Your handlebar risers, or something in the motor? are the bars black? if so, then the rises should be, otherwise leave them chrome.. I'm leaving my Laydown Plate chrome because of the chrome ring around the tail light, so the two blend but isn't exaggerated..

when you say Denim.. do you mean you want to have those parts painted Denim black? Because if so, it won't match the engine and it'll stick out like a sore thumb.. what you want is a "Textured Black" powder coat..it's a tiny bit glossier than the HD engine, but it still looks nice.. as for going Denim on the lower forks..that'll certainly be different, but it wont match the light housing or the "cow bells".. if you were to get all of those things painted (and I say painted because im pretty sure Denim isn't a powdercoat option..then again, maybe it is, idk)...but if you were to get those things done in Denim, that would certainly be original and i think you'd be the only one to do it..now whether it would look good? who knows..

But it's your bike.. if anything, i suggest you take some good pictures of it, put them on the computer, then use MS Paint or something and just color in the spots you want to ahve done..that'll give you an idea of how it'll look..

Anywho.. I'm having some tiny things done this year..the largest of which is the Clutch Housing Cover (the thing that says Six Speed that isn't actually a transmission cover)..im having that done black so it doesn't stick out behind my pipes..that leaves the Engine being the brushed chrome..it's going to create a nice looking V amongst all the black. I also put on the black console because after awhile the silver one stuck out too much for me.. That's about it..then I think i'm done with cosmetics.

I've been on the fence about PC'ing my CC and PC. I kinda like the contrast, although if I ever need to redo them due to wear and damage, I'd probably go black.

Bars and lower forks are a must though. The other thing I am not sure about is whether or not to PC the entire wheel black. Most likely going to throw on some fat spokes.

Either way, you can never really black out too much. I saw one that was solid black, and I mean everything...it actually looked pretty evil.

I have the flush mount fuel guages..i like them.. one thing i learned is DO NOT PUT THE WIRES IN TO THE WIRE HOUSING BEFORE INSTALLING THE DAMN GAUGE.. they're a pain in the *** to remove. Anywho..the stock fuel gauge is plugged in under the tank with the same housing that comes with the flush one.. if you don't plan on selling your stock on, just use a pair of wirecutters and cut the wires..then pull the gauge right out..the new one slips right in the place, and there's a tube going through the tank that the wires go through (it really is that simple)..once they're through, put them in to the wire housing in the right order, and plug it in, and you're done

BR did my bars in a denim black...you can see my bars in the pics I posted last night. It's not exact though, at least if you get up really close.

I spoke to a PC here in South Florida and he told me could match it, in fact, my salesman had his whole bike PC'ed flat black and it looked pretty good...

Jim, I recommend just buying the one from the dealership. It is only $60 I think and it makes a big difference. That's what I did. But, of course everything is going to be changed when I get back from this deployment (**** is getting powder coated, EVERYWHERE, you shall see)... I get a little more of an advantage of creating "contrast" than all of the black bikes out there
(I'm not hating; I love the black bikes, but I love my silver too)

If you can wait til April, I might be willing to sell you my clutch cover for next to nothin. Like maybe the cost of shipping. I am going to give them my original one for when I do the powder coating, so the black one I have on there will most likely get thrown in the box of take-offs that is never seen until I go to replace something else on the bike unless someone wants it.

And FYI, my coater says there IS a powder out there now that almost identically matches the denim black... We will see when I get some parts on mine done in it I guess... I am looking at over $500 in just powder at the moment.

Yeah, i had a feeling there would be, since there are SO many damn colors they can do now..it's wild stuff... but as far as the cover, it only cost me $12 to get done..it's considered a "medium part" by his standards, and because I've given his card out to so many people around here, he gives me some good prices.. like i'm having mufflers, heatshields, some medium parts, and a bunch of small parts done, and the total cost is like $195 for the lot, but thanks though.

I am going through the same thing as you guys right now regarding PCing stuff. I have blacked out the front of the bike, and am now deciding on what to do next. I was thinking of PCing the consol and primary cover, but now I am rethinking it. I kind of like the silver on the consol because it ties it into the silver on the engine. I am probably going to go open primary at some point so I am not sure about PCing the cover now. I was definitely going to do the bars and risers, and now I am looking at some 10" Chubby Outlawz and their black risers. I think I am just going to PC a few pieces at a time instead of taking in everything at once. My wife laughs at me because I keep changing my mind about what I am doing next.

Sgt_Jim,
The piston risers are my handlebar risers, sorry for the confusion. I was going to powder coat (PC) the riser Vivid Black and PC the lower forks and bars Denim Black if they make it in PC (my upper forks are Denim Black). Thoughts? I was not sure how that would look. For the rest of it I am stuck between Vivid,Denim and now Textured Black. Maybe anything chrome I should PC Vivid black. I really don't want to make the wrong decision on this.
I was also going to take off the tail light and get the ring PC Vivid Black.
I am a little confused when you say it won't match my engine since everything on my bike (stock) is pretty much Denim. Now this is coming from me the only guy to fail art class.
Thanks for the input about using MS paint, I will definitely have my teenager do that for me.
By PCing the Clutch Cover I was thinking the same as you and it would make the engine stand out and create that V look.
Good luck to you and your bike looks amazing.
Go Army

I am considering PCing the wheels also. I have seen a couple of bikes in this thread with the wheels blacked out and they look sweet.
The forks, bars and risers will be PC just don't know what shade of black I am going with yet.
I am with Sgt_Jim on PCing the CC it will make the engine stand out and give it a nice V look.
I love your bars they look awesome!!
