I've been watching the FuelMoto videos on how to do it.. it seems like such a ridiculously easy process (as long as you know your clockwise from your counter-clockwise).. it seems like the hardest thing to do is either remove the old pistons or remove the gas tank without spilling residue gas everywhere. I can't wait to tear in to it.. got to get the bike back in to the dining room garage first.. and micahpop (forum member, has a crazy Rocker) is sending me the cam bearing removal/installation tools and i'm paying shipping on that..otherwise i thought that might be the hardest step. noooope..
Yeah, I've got that cam bearing tool, makes it super easy. It was well worth the money. Try to get the tank as empty as possible, makes it so much easier to handle without the weight. Go by the auto parts store and pick up a set of vacuum port caps. Clamp the fuel hose on either side of the tank, then cut off the pinch clamp on the opposite side. Start sliding the hose off the tank nipple and have the vacuum hose cap ready. As soon as the hose comes off, cap the nipple on the tank. The clamp on the other side of the backbone will keep the gas from coming out the hose, and obviously the cap keeps it from coming out the nipple. That will get the tank off with minimal spillage and then you can drain under control if you wish, or just set it out of the way as-is.
I'm very interested in the piston part too. Last time I dealt with pistons and rings, I screwed it up. That would be the biggest concern for me too.
Yeah..somehow, last Sunday, I went out for a nice long ride to try to empty the fuel from the tank (since i only have a 2 gallon gas can, and it's already got a gallon of premium in it already).. anyways.. somehow i navigated my ride perfectly so that when i was 10 miles from my house, the range-o-meter said 10 miles then said "Lo..", so I think I have just enough gas left in the tank to get the bike back in to the dining room, then I can work it around and have such a small amount in there that it won't go spilling everywhere. I'm quite pleased with that. I think my neighbor has the piston ring tool.. so I hope it works for these. I had planned on starting it today, but a buddy of mine who's a photographer in Manhattan asked me to help him out with a photo shoot project thing he's working on, so that's what I'm doing all day. Fun times. Tomorrow then, i hope.

You'd be surprised at how much gas is left in there when the meter says 'Lo'. Just assume there's 1/2 gallon left in there when you go to take it off.

I was curious if any of you have any experience with bluetooth in your helmets (I have an open face). I really could care less about phone calls and don't have anyone to intercom with, I just want to be able to beam music from the iPhone in my pocket without a hassle. From my first pass of research, it looks like the J&M stuff is a tad pricey but has superiour audio quality. The Mrs. is gonna get me one for Christmas. Any input?
