I just replaced my stock pipes on a 09 Softail Custom with the V&H Big Radius 2-1. Sounds great! However, after about 15 seconds, smoke starts to come out of the heat shields. It doesn't smell electrical. It's not coming out of the engine itself. I'm thinking possibly it's burning excess thread lubricant from the O2 sensor threads.
Anyone else have this problem with new pipes? Is this something I should be worried about?
Just want to make sure I'm not going to let it burn something else while I'm waiting to finish burning the lubricant.
Thanks for the quick reply!
EDIT: Oh ya, first time we started it after the installation, there was some sort of spray on the oil tank and pipes. After the initial startup, no spray came from anywhere, though.
yup have the same pipes on the fatboy I just installed a month ago and had the same feeling ... my son even stuck a small ball that comes in those toy vaccum in there... I did not know about that until I put it on and he asked me " Where is my ball did it come out yet ?'' I was like phuk that I am not taking it all out just to get the ball out ... It burned like plastic for few days but I am sure with that much temp the call melted and burned away inside the pipe .... Ride on brother these are great pipes.. thanks to Dr. Vtwin I am happy with my setup..
When I installed my upswept exhasut there were a few packing peanuts that were still in the pipes that I did not know about. I started it and they shot into the air. I wish I had a video of it.
Just to follow-up on this. I road all day today and had no problem. No more smoke. Thanks again for the encouragement. Reminds me again of how cool the HD community can be.
