Default Easy Brackets

So, if I buy Easy Brackets for use without a backrest and add on later, can I buy just the hardware to do it or do I have to buy them twice? And where is the best price?

Default easy brackets

It depends on the backrest. If you are using one from the motor company then you will need the specific bracket that fits with the backrest as the spacing will be changed. if you are using something like the backrest from Kuryakyn then you will have to use a bracket that will use the rear two holes on the strut. this will also require relocating the rear turn signals. Easy bracket has the stuff to do that as well.

That depends on a lot of things...year of bike, type of backrest , type of bracket. I have Ghost Brackets and the only difference between backrest and no backrest, is a washer for a spacer.

When I changed mine I just bought new bolts, when I had the wheel off I bolted it all up and cut the remaining threads off.

I have a stock sissy bar and it was removeable. I later put on saddle bags and just added a new spacer and new bolts.

ole coyote, I digin that sidecar! works will with your bike!

OP,

It does matter on many things. As others have said we need more information. For example you said you may want to add on a sissy bar (back rest). Most are assuming that you want a quick release but if you are using a hard mount then it will not change a thing and you can still use the same brackets. If not and you do want the quick release then yes things are going to change.

More info is needed.

It is an 04 Fatboy. I want to put some type of detachable backrest on it.

If I remember right you can just order the easy brackets weith the mounting kit for use with a detachable backrest. It's not that different thant the kit for no backrest and if you order it from the start you won't have to worry later. I have the easy brackets and detachable backrest on my Heritage, but run without the backrest and bags most of the time. I think one of the other posters was right that the difference is there are spacers, the rubber groove piece for the detachable side plates and longer bolts for the kit.

i bought the hardware later and it was only $20. very helpful phone people. they have the kit for the front mount and one for the rear mount. I used the front mount and the shorter brackets because i dont want to relocate the turn signals. I think i have extra kit for the rear mount.
