I bought the bike March 31 and it was finished on April 23 so I was pretty excited to get the bike finally done from the HD dealer. The bike was still in a crate and after I added the race tuner, AC kit, bars, seats, rider backrest, passenger pillion (sissy bar QD and pad still on back-order) QD & rear tail light relocate kit, pipes, grips, black BK and Clutch, swing-arm bag, dyno tune and a 3 year maintenance paid in advance I am pretty much in the poor house.
The dealer called me a week later to tell me they screwed up and ordered the wrong length of cables for the bars and that they were too long for the 12.5” cubbies I ordered. He said they didn’t want to start anything else until they had the bars mounted and it would be another week to get the correct cables in. They had the 12.5’s mounted so I came in and sat on the bike (I’m 5-11) and was surprised that the bars felt really low for me. So I said “why don’t we just order a higher bar and keep the cables”, so we ordered 14” bars. After a week they came in and they were the wrong size, only 13”, he said they don’t make a 14” so basically we were right back where we started. So my bike is completely torn down into nothing more then a frame, motor and fenders sitting in a cold warehouse for weeks….poor thing…stripped to the bone. I was pretty upset but then I figured you don’t want to p-off the surgeon if you’re about to have heart surgery so I bit my tongue and they suggested 4” risers to get the bike going. As it turned out, the bars feel fine but if I had to do it all over again I would have ordered 16” or 18” bars. Not sure but I think the factory lowering the front of the FBL makes higher bars a must (for those who like Ape’s that is) IMO. The HD 21” black framed windshield is about 2” to high for me as I am looking over the top and through it, HD has a local guy to cut it down for $20.
All in all the HD dealer guys did me lots of little favors and were really good about getting the bike done in two days after they had all the parts. I’ll go back in a 1000 miles to go from a baseline D-tune to a fully peaked D-tune and service.
The funny thing about this whole purchase was; I never test road the bike until the day they finished it so I was pretty much screwed if it was not a good fit. Man was I impressed with the ride, the rider backrest, the floor boards, Mustang seat and Apes really made for a comfortable ride. The V&H Big Radius 2 into 2 are damn loud so I use earplugs on long rides but what a great sounding pipe…deep throated type of sound, just what I was looking for.
Ok, there you have it….Left to right pics...first one shows bike in warehouse sitting partically disassembled, next three show last two days at dealer being fully assembled with options.
