I replaced the plug wires earlier today....could that be the prob?
The wires were from J&P Cycles...and the correct ones for my '04 FLSTC.
any advice please?
Is your 04 fuel injected?
IF yes you need wires with a feed back strand in them somthing to do with monitoring.
I bought a set of SE wires and had the light all the time put stock back on and the light went out.
I wanted red wires so I bought a set of accels from JP that are injection compatable and have had no further issues.
The way the Delphi Fuel Injection System Computer determines if the engine is pinging is, among other things, related to the electrical properties of the secondary ignition system (Coil, Wires and Spark Plugs). If the wires you used were solid core wires it will cause the computer system to read it as a system failure. The wires you use need a minimum of at least 1,000 ohms per foot but no more than 10,000 ohms total. They used to call resistance wires "TV Suspression Wires" because they reduce the emiitted RF so that they don't mess up your Television picture . . . . but non-supressed wires can still mess with the electronics on your bikes computer . . . . similar things can happen if you use cheap non-resistor spark plugs.

I did get the wires from J&P ...I think they were accels ( tossed the package. ) Maybe they were not compatable with FI.
Hopefully when the dealer opens in a few hours..I'll be able to get another set of wires and that will solve the prob.
I'll post later today or tomorrow with the results.
Guys like me would be lost without the advice from this forum.....

thanks for all the comments..
Just be care full my dealer told me the SE wires would work but they didn't.
The wires I used are on page 244 of the JP cataloge I just recieved.
part # 383-282 -blue 383-283 black 383-284 red 383-285 yellow.
I got hold of my old plug wires.
I cleared the code....replaced the new ACCEL CRD 30580 plug wires with my old 'stock' wires....and no more engine light worning.
( engine light does not come on while riding )
So the choice of plug wires does make a difference. ..at least on my '04 FLSTC.
If it haden't been for thie advice on this forum, I would have thought; "Well, the engine light coming on... cannot be the new wires.. because they're BRAND NEW!"
........
But. I still want the extra colour on my bike so...While I was at the dealer today...I ordered the SE 10mm. plug wires ( red ). They assured me these wires would work on my bike.
Hopefully, they will look good and work well.
thanks for the advice and information folks....very helpful
if the SEs work, let us know, I'd like some red ones
sure thing.
It will be a couple of days....I had to order them. The Parts-Dept. at my local dealer is "....well...we don't have any in stock...but we'll put a 'rush' on it and have it here in a couple of days." They carry an annoyingly small amount of stock.
I'll also tell you what I paid for them....be interesting to compare the local ( ontario canada ) price with yours. ( at least dealer price)
