Default Once again..touring on a Softail frame

I'm trying to love a Street Glide, don't care for the Road Glide or Road King. My last Harley was a Softail Standard, modded out and looking fine.

Okay, I know a Street Glide is going to be comfy farther down the road every day of along ride. But... either a Heritage or a Fat Boy with a shield and bags -- how much down on comfort am I going to be?

I really need help with this folks, as I have a Hayabusa for under 300 mile rides, but for going on a long weekend or eventually across country, can I do it on the above bikes without killing myself?

Thanks -- as always -- in advance for your kind input.

I hate work today... -L-

I would agree that touring on a softail should be no problem. A good seat, comfy bars, and decent wind protection and you should be able to ride all day.
I came from sportbikes and I love my Fatboy. I was really thinking that I was going to move on to a streetglide next year, but after riding my father-in-law's electraglide standard, I decided to put some hard bags and maybe a fairing on the Fatboy and stay with it.
IMO, the softail just seemed to handle better when the roads got a little unstraight, which is my favorite part.

Default Touring on a softail

I've done 600+ miles on a softail deluxe with no problem. A windshield, good seat, and highway pegs make the difference.

I've done many 300+ mile days without a problem. But, I've never ridden a 300+ mile day on a street glide to compare. The best thing to do is to rent a bike from your local dealer and do it for yourself. That's the only way you'll truly know if it the right bike for "you". Everyone is different. And so is their riding style.

I came from dirtbiking so I really dont care for the windshield. Longest Ive been on one shot on my Rocker is 650 miles a day for three days. No windshield, no chaps and stock bars. HSPRING03- now thats some riding. Plan on doing the 1K in 24 hrs challenge soon.

It's easily accomplished, just takes a few mods.
I've got a drivers backrest now, gonna get rid of the barrel.

A touring bike is going to be more comfortable, even a Street Glide. That said, it's doable on a Softie. Next month I've got a 2,000+ mile long weekend planned for the Night Train. It's not the ride that gets you, it's the wind blast and (for me) the seating position.
