Ive bought a few wheels now and I swear by ebay. I know some guys dont like ebay but theres no denying deals are available there, take your time and wait it will happen .
I put the HD Reaper wheels on mine...not quite as expensive as some of the after market ones...and I agree there is a difference in handling with a spoked wheel rather than solid...
i bought a set of blades for my fxstc and saved $400.00 off retail with no tax or freight. I have used e-bay for 10yrs. with very few problems. most new wheels come from harley dealers so you are generally safe from dirty deals.
So saddlebags and the rims they put on baggers don't catch any crosswinds??? How about your body or the passenger you carry??? How about the bike itself which provides more surface area then the rims??? But there is no debate huh...
I dont want $800.00 - $1000.00 per wheel mirror chrome, for gods sake.
I agree with you and also don't want to spend $1000 per wheel...I think it's way to much. After buying two wheels, matching sprocket, wheel installation kid, and labor the total cost will be almost $3K! I have the money but just can't justify the purchase. Maybe if I could get some of my money back when I sold the bike it would be easier but putting new wheels on is like all other modifications - will only get a fraction of the initial cost back. At the end of the day...it makes no difference on how I ride and doesn't take away from my enjoyment of getting out there.
The cost of wheels suck. That being said,if you don't spend 2k on wheels, you will soon be disappointed with the quality of what you bought. Your only hope of finding quality wheels at a reasonable price is to buy used. Do a search on Ebay and save the search...they will email you everyday the new ones listed. It may take a while, but you can usually find a low mileage, or even never mounted set for half or less of the original asking price. Good luck!
i like the wheels on the new convertible but for money wise i think keep the wheels and rattle can them the same color as your bike. i did see a ebay page where they will take your wheels and cut them info razor or other patterns and chrome or not.
Scored some PM wheels, matching rotors, pulley, with a Metz front tire... on CL for about what the pulley alone costs. It is nice to order new and get it right away though.
Dont know if this applies to your 08, but the handling with the 18's is better, not running tubed tires any longer is good, and having a rear radial improves handling. What will apply to you and surprised me is, a lot more people checking out the bike... bling, bling. lol
