Default Wheels?

Trying to find some new wheels for my 09 Fat Boy.

I dont want $800.00 - $1000.00 per wheel mirror chrome, for gods sake.

Isn't anyone making brushed aluminum wheels that dont require that my kids give up their college tuition?

I like the wheels you have on there! Why not wait until the off season and take those wheels you have and have them powder coated. That would look bad ***. You could go black, or part black and part silver. Lots of options.

I agree. They look spectacular. However, having owned 3 Fat Boys now, and ridden many thousands of miles on the first two with both solid wheels and open wheels, and now 6000 more on the 09 with the solid wheels, I know for absolute fact that the solid wheels affect the handling. sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on your speed and your own direction relative to the wind.

I dont even want to start a debate about that subject. I know what I know and I have a LOT of miles on several bikes to back it up.

I LOVE the look of the solid wheels, and I wish I was wrong, but I prefer the handling of open wheels.

Go spokes! The fat boy looks sweet with spokes! Check out honkeylips' bike...you'll see what I mean.

Sorry I don"t have a good answer. Lots of folks go with the DNA's (mostly putting in tubes), but aside from the spokes, I have no idea.

I'm watching this thread for me also. I am always astounded that a wheel will cost in the ballpark of $1000.

But then again, I'm terminally frustrated that any bike accessory is over $100, lol. I found a pic of a cool headlight I wanted...$440! Give me a break.

Good luck brother, ride safe.

I have a bike with 5 spoke wheels and it's just like a solid wheel in a cross wind if that's what your talking about in the handling department.

From a purely physics point of view, a 5 spoke wheel will never be like a solid wheel no matter how fast its spinning. It will not pose any significant resistance to a gas passing through it.

This debate has raged on for years, and the science behind it backs this up 100%.

As I said, I do not wish to debate this point. I just want to find out if there
are any affordable replacement wheels for my Fat Boy.

Lets just pretend its because I hate the way the solid wheels look.

The wheel search has me all jacked up too. I have really struggling to rationalize spending $2K on a set of wheels for the bike - so is my wife

I want to get away from spokes and tubes. Have had 2 flats within 6 months and being totally down and not able to plug is an issue.
