Default Custom Fender Setup Questions

Don't want to spend the big $ on a heartland, PM, or RSD. Looking at getting this fender setup. Anyone had any experience with it or something like it? My biggest concern is whether my seat pan will match the contour of this fender, as I have a custom solo, and don't want to be forced into buying antoher one to fit the new fender. Any advice or help would be great! Here's the link:

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination but that looks like a nice set-up. Good looking fender and it looks stout.

I can tell you this. i just did a rear fender job on my 2009 Fatty. If you skimp on good parts you will kick your self in the end. Make a good list of everything that will need top happen along with prices next to it. This will help you figure out even if your gonna end up doing a rear fender change. Me personally i would not buy that fender. I would but from a company that has been putting kits together for some time and will have a help number you can call to get you out of jail when you get stuck. Just my two cents

cheers

Please take my advice and DO NOT DO IT.

See my thread "You Guys Tried to Warn Me- Demons Cycle".

That fender looks almost exactly the same as the one I bought that was advertised for "Custom Harley- fits 180-200mm"... it fits the width of the tire, but not the frame.

PLEASE be careful. I just dropped $300 in labor for NOTHING on this fender.

The "over priced" kits are well worth the money as they provide perfect fitment. It can me a nightmare to try and get just a fender to fit with the set you have well. It's a shot in the dark. I am aware the other kits are not cheap, but hit me up and I can get you a discounted forum price at least.

First what are you putting it on? That appears to be for an 84-99 style frame. Second strutless fenders generally suck because you bolt it on, and you are out of options...it is what it is. If you want to save some bucks and have something that looks good, you would be better off to buy a fender blank and some kind of custom struts...then you can custom fit it to your seat and get the stance just right.

What you have to keep in mind with alot of these parts is, do you have extensive metal working experience and tools. Gotta metal brake for bending metal? A MIG or TIG welder for custom fabricating mounts and brackets? If you don't have it, know someone who does? Like every one has said, there is a reason these parts are cheap. They are a starting point. The time ,cost and aggravation if you aren't prepared aren't worth the money saved.

Everyone here is bringing up very valid points. Biting the bullet on a set of heartland or RSD struts isn't easy but you will be much happier in the long run. One thing I hate to bring up is your seat. Any aftermarket fender you find that looks good is going to have a tighter radius around the wheel. So because of this your seat is going to move back on the frame to be flush against the fender. I would hate to see anyone sacrifice proper fitment of a fender just because of a seat. Don't forget you need to make room for your ecm also and a place to put your tail light / license plate set up. RSD struts are the nicest for the money. check out my pics, you'll see how they look.

ditto.Bought the same fender from someone on here that said a little grinding would be necessary.Way off for my bike.eEnded up cutting it up for the Sportster.Check out the Milwaukee Twin fenders or KustomWerks they are reasonable and having used both say they fit pretty good.
