I know there are a few of you guys running apes from Road 6. I have one of their side mounts in my garage, which seems to be of goog quality. How happy are you guys with the quality of the bars? I am thinking about a bar swap, but many of the sets of apes I have seen look too wide at the base.
roger, I was looking at the Wild 1 chubby, but the total center section on their Springer bars is like 13" or something. I believe the factory bars are like 11" I want something with a little more narrow center, but still knurled for Springers. I saw a friends bike with the adapter plate, but that means new risers also, and it looks too much like an afterthought or something for me. I like clean....you have any suggestions?
Doesnt wild1 have some new narrow bottom apes? Otherwise I would check into BR Custom bars. Seems a ton of guys on here say you can't go wrong with them.
The Road6 bars are of good quality, the welds are nice and clean. The only issue I have with them is the knurling, it was useless since they powder coated over the knurling making it ineffective.
The narrow base looks good with the springer front end, it has about the same width and flows nicely.
I went with custom chrome 16" on my FX springer. It was two-fold: 1) narrow bottom 2) cheap.
So far, no complaints. I did have to put some sandpaper in the riser clamps to keep the bars from slipping. But i've heard that is a pretty common thing with most tall bars.
