Default Brake Kleen question

Getting ready to do oil change and wanted to know if using Brake Kleen (red can) will harm the powder coating or frame paint. Was planning on using this to clean up any oil that I spill especially when removing the filter. I have read mixed reviews on this topic. Any advice is helpful. Thanks.

I've found a little cleaning solvent and a soft brush is best, followed by a rinse of water. No harm to the paint or powdwer coating.

I use Simple Green full strength, it's safer and works very well for removing residual oil. I have found that any solvent cleaners can dull powder coat and wrinkle paint and even remove regular paint so I try not to use them as much as possible.

Don't have a can of Brake Kleen around, but check the label. Most will have a warning to keep it off the paint, if necessary. A rag and paper towels works as well...

I've used some brand of Brake Parts Cleaner on my two harleys after every oil change. I don't care how careful I am, what various objects I use, how much oil I try to get out of the filter before removing, I make a mess every time. I've just learned to accept it and clean it with my brake parts cleaner. Never affected the engine paint on my 99 after 40,000 miles and hasn't done anything to my 07 after 27,000 miles.

I use brake clean to blow off the little bit of oil spilled after an oil change. I haven't noticed any dulling of the powder coat. Just a little warning though. If you are a smoker don't use the red can and smoke around it. it can kill you. The green can is non chlorinated and much safer.

Agreed. Simple Green is good stuff. Just don't let it evaporate or dry on sensitive surfaces. Let it sit and do it's thing for a little bit, then rinse thoroughly with the water hose.
