I am trying to remove the center console on my 2008 Nightrain, which I've taken off several times in the past, but the acorn nut seems the be turning the threaded stud that its attached to. Has anyone else had thiws problem? If so, any tips or tricks to remove it would be helpful. I'm trying to track down the electrical "short" that I posted about earlier.
If I am not mistaken the bolt is similar to a Carriage bolt with a square on it that fits in a slot on the bracket. You may be able to use some Vice grips with electrical tape on the jaws, that way you could pull up on the nut as you turn it.
This may get the square part to engage the slot better???
Yup, had that problem when I was fixing my bike after getting into a wreck. The carriage bolt just spun and spun. I tried everything to no avail. Some of you guys are more patient than me. I just put a shop rag down to protect the console, had a buddy pry the nut and bolt up enough to get a cut wheel in there and I got out my dremel and cut the bolt. I took my time and was careful about it, so no harm was done to the console. When it came time to replace the carriage bolt, I made sure that wasn't going to happen again and I JB welded the bolt into place. Haven't had a problem since. Redneck engineering at its finest.
