I've been thinking of putting in cams and have been looking at the different tuners out there. HD shop said Super Tuner only, of course, but said NOT Fuelpak, Cobra or PowerCommander or any other tuner that removes the O2 sensors. Anyway, I liked the little bit I could understand about the Mastertune, because of downloading your original ECM info and then do your tuning for whatever mods you have done, with the ability to return everything back to stock if needed. Sorry this is so long, my question is....what I've read on the Mastertune site, it seems like you would have to be a Very experienced tuner or dyno tech, with alot of knowledge of all the parameters and/or situation setting, to be able to get all the setting correct. Anyone running one, please give a me a little info on how you did your tuning, yourself or shop and the cost of having it done. Thanks
You can actually record everything the bike is doing while you ride it. Record several rides, and then you can make your own map out of this. You start with a base map.
The TTS seems intimidating, but it's actually pretty simple to use once you get the hang of it. The most important thing is to read the entire manual prior to attempting to tune.
The ultra-compressed version is:
- Save your stock map.
- Find a map on the TTS that is close to the accessories you have and load it.
- If you're going to V-Tune, set up your tuning map and load that into the bike.
- Ride, and try to vary engine speed, load, and throttle position as much as possible, holding different throttle positions for around 5 seconds each. This is a little different for Lambda-based tuning, as that's all done via map rather than throttle position.
- Run V-Tune and see what you come up with. When you can eliminate all the pink cells and minimize the yellow ones, you're done. Restore the AFRs (or Lambda) and the other constants that you disabled for tuning, save and load that map.
Timing is a whole different story, but not difficult. Get your fuel right before you start fooling with the timing.
Make sure to order the cables with it when you make your purchase as they don't come with it and are extra. My TTS got here last week, I got it from Fox Cycle and when I ordered it I didn't realize that so now I am waiting on cables.
Doc, HDMD88, in Florida sells the TTS and is a real guru on it. I wanted to pick mine up through him so I could have his tech support but couldn't find his website and got in a hurry. He has a great rep and comes highly recommended.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm really wanting to put a set of cams in and I don't think my Fuelpak will do the trick. I do alot of my own upgrades and services but the whole programming of a tuner with a laptop just seems alittle over my head. I really don't want to have to do a bunch of dyno tuning, because of cost and also the closest shop is about 75 miles away. I went to the Mastertune site and started reading the manual and I felt like I was reading a foreign language. I think when I get ready to install cams and a tuner, I will be on here with alot of questions, I hope I'm making this harder than it really is, but I just don't know anything about all the technical input to programming a FI tuner. My Fuelpak is just get on V&H site, type in what I'm running and then put in a few number codes....done. Anyway, you guys with the Mastertune, stay tuned....LOL....I'll be back.
Thanks Jaxx, take plenty of notes and please keep me informed on the process. I'm getting excited for ya, now I can't wait to get some info. I think if I get enough feed back from guys that have done all there own programming, with success, I won't be so hesitant to make the leap. Man, this forum is Priceless......thanks again

+1 on Doc, I bought from him and he explained everything. I tuned it myself with V-tune and am very happy with results.
