My $.02, is to acquire a HD service manual if you don't already have one, b/c the pictures that are in the directions suck! I'm only slightly mechanically inclined, so it probably took me longer than the average person here, but the housings didn't seem too bad, just pay attention to how the wires are routed in the old housings. I went to the trouble of "shimming" the front brake lever only to have a burr in the hole of the chrome housing where the brakelight switch fits through, tore the little rubber boot, had to purchase and install a new brakelight switch. I'm in agreement with those here who believe the chrome switch caps are the royal pain in the azz. Ended up buying two sets of chrome switches after I broke one in the first set...they are very fragile, and you must stretch them a bit to take off the old ones and put on the new ones. Also, be careful not to lose the little springs that are in the turn signal switches, as they like to fall out. Good luck!
I just finished this same swap today. No real problems. Take your time. Note how the wires are run (I didn't run the right top wires back under the lower bracket and like to never figured out what I was doing wrong.) I used a piece of the cardboard in the housing box to shim the brake lever. Watch the brass ferrels in the throttle; you're going to drop them, so be ready. I found that the switch covers came off easier if I pryed the round peg off first and then the "toothed" side. Reversed to install. Not really hard to do. Wish my dealer had the grips I wanted so I could have done it all at one time; now I've got to do it again next weekend!
Now I've got to save my pennies to get the chrome brake and clutch brackets. Maybe if I'm good Santa will hook a brother up....
not really any problems. It took a couple hours. The second side went faster once I stumbled through the first side. No broken switches or pinched wires. I will post pics tomorrow.
Pretty cool.. just a touch of chrome using the black to set it off. Nice theme you've got going on with your scoot now with some chrome and some black mixed in for a nice contrast.
some people have no sense of adventure. this was the third thing i did to my 05 deluxe when i got it. choose to only switch the caps as the black housing helps offset the color combo ( vivid black and glacier white pearl) it took about 1 hour. ride free, ride safe, ride often.doug
