Default scotchbrite question

Anyone ever completely scotchbrite a chrome wheel?

I've done most of the chrome on my bike so far, but am hesitant to do the front spoke wheel. Im thinking of just doing the outer hoop--the stock hub already has a kind of a flat look to it.

Exile and Tod's Cycle both build bikes with a brushed look on the wheels--just not sure if they started with a chrome and then scuffed it, or what....

otherwise--everything else has turned out pretty cool. I did the stock chrome harley controls last weekend, and they turned out exactly like I wanted. Completely scuffed the levers, controls, master cylinder, switch housings--everything..looks great.
I cut a couple of scuff pads into small squares, and put them on an air grinder--makes pretty damn fast work of it. It will melt the pads though, it you hold it in one spot too long!!

I've always been afraid of scotchbright. I loaned a piece to a friend one time to get some burnt rain suit off of his pipe and it when through the chrome.
