Default Moisture inside my speedo

After getting caught in a downpour the other day, the inside of my glass on the speedo has water on it. Can I take this apart to clean inside the glass, or is it a factory sealed unit?

Thanks

George

Living on Okinawa it happens often. Just get out in the sun and ride. It hasn't caused any ill effects thus far and normally clears up after about 30 minutes. Ride safe.

Don't try to take the speedo apart...just let 'er sit in the sun for a bit & it'll dry. Happens when you wash the bike too (normal).

Actually you can clean the inside of the glass by removing the "dash" and then remove the speedo unit... then CAREFULLY use a screwdriver with a wide blade to turn up the crimped edge on the back... the whole unit will come apart... remember the order it comes apart in and after cleaning it good reassemble it in reverse order. Before re-crimping the back edge I sealed it with silicon and have not had the problem again... the rubber seals the factory use are not good enough as usual to keep the moisture out.

Taking the speedo apart is a really bad idea. You also do not want the speedo completely sealed. The moisture is condensation and if it is completely sealed it will not dry out when you park it in the sun.

I got caught in a heavy rain storm in 2004 when my bike was new and my speedo still gets condensation inside when it sits in the sun or I've been riding on a warm day. I don't leave it outside for long periods so it may not have dried, but after 6 years I'd think it would. I rarely use any water on the bike.

Obviously you have never tried it... my speedo remains dry and clear ever since I did what I recommended above. The ambient air will remain static as long as the unit is sealed... no condensation or rain water to worry about. Try it out... it works great!

Ok, I was worried about the electronics inside being damaged from the moisture...mine is all electrical...no mechanical drive to it...but if thats normal...well Ill have to get it back out in the sun (when it actually comes back out)
