Default Brakes Question

Ok, I know that there are better brakes out there than what the MoCo has given us. Now I am toying with the idea of changing mine (still stock) but I don't really have a clue what to look at.

One of the things I was wondering has anyone put brembo brakes on their softail (I have a heritage classic)?? I have seen the threads that Tourers have retrofitted their older baggers to brembo.
What everything needs to be done for a brembo conversion?
With brembo is it front and rear or only front?

if not brembo what would you guys suggest?

Came accross another post and someone mentioned this advice:
1) 6/4 pistons caliper (i heard PM & HHI are the best)
2) brake pad (Lyndall racing is one of the best)
3) Go floating rotor
4) ss braided brake line
5) linked to 1 above, u may wanna change the master cylinder size

If I want to avoid changing master cylinder does that mean I can only go 4 piston max?

If i change the front do i need to change the rear?

Thanks for all the advice, and i am sure there will be more questions from me regarding this.

I thought about switching to Lyndalls but after reading here about problems with them I think I'll stick with HD pads.

No complaints about the stock brakes. They stop the bike fine, what more could you ask of them. Maybe anti-lock but you gotta move up to a tourer which is something the MoCo should change.

Well you do have a point jimmers. Although we all often complain about the braking they do stop our bikes. However I am still tempted to improve them. Especially living in NYC with the crazy traffic here and a lot of stop and go a little extra stopping power would be nice

Harley brakes are adequate for most situations, but they are far from being optimal. You may not realize how poor hey truly are unless you have something else to compare them with. Having both BMW and Harleys, I definitely can tell the difference between marginal and outstanding breaking perfrmance.

For the life of me I can not figure out why they don't put dual fronts on softails. They put them on the Fatbob why not the Fatboy? Coming from streetbikes these brakes are pathetic. Now I know my Fatboy weighs double what my R6 does but I also paid almost 3x the price for the Fatty. The least they could do is put doubles on the front

so then what is the best way to go about changing this problem.

I am trying to find a solution that will make my wallet happy too. I would like more "ummpf" in my brakes (better stopping power) without going bankrupt.

I run PM calipers front and rear. 6 piston front with a Magnum steel braided line and Lyndall pads. The rear has a 4 piston, stock brake line and Lyndall pads. I rarely use my rear brakes as I am an ex sport bike rider and rear brakes are really unnecessary on those bikes. I don't know about all these problems people have with the Lyndall's. I could not imagine having the the stock calipers on this bike. I bought it used and it already has the PM calipers.

It stops very well for a single front caliper and a heavy bike. Whenever I ride the wife's sporty which is much lighter but has the stock calipers I am shocked at how poorly it stops.

As far as I am concerned brakes are a safety item like tires and it is well worth the extra money to be able to stop quicker.

The Brembo conversion is another option. talk to Howard at Motorcycle Metal as he can hook you up with all that stuff. I don't know the price difference, but neither is inexpensive. However, my life is well worth it any day of the week.
