Has anyone attached a Drag Specialties DS720016 bobtail luggage rack to a 2004 FXST, FXSTS or FXSTB with any problems? I have purchased two of these and have no luck getting them on my 04 FXST.
The first one I had to bend the "feet" to get them wide enough to attach to the license plate bracket. I then had someone hold the bike from moving forward as i pushed the rack forward with every ounce of strength i had to try to get the rack mounting hole to line up with the seat mounting hole but no such luck. I wrote that rack off, being that it was purchased on e-bay. I then went and bought a brand new one from my local Drag dealer and again, I had to bend the feet on the rack to get them wide enough to attach to the license plate bracket. And again I had someone hold the front of the bike while i pushed with every ounce of strength to get the seat mounting hole to line up with the mounting hole in the rack. I then noticed that the vertical bars in the rack that extend to the license plate hit the end of the fender so it appears that there is no way this one is going on either.
I don't own one of these but DS says you will need to purchase this separate in order to mount this luggage rack on 00-05 FXST models. Do you have this seat bracket?
I do have that gooberdog. That simply allows one to use a removable bolt to mount the seat/luggage rack whereas with the stock seat bracket, the bolt is attached.
