Default Heritage Sundowner deep seat question

I went to the HD shop and sat on their softail Sundowner deep seat and it felt "fairly" comfy enuf, but the lower back support felt much improved over the stock seat. That's mostly what I'm after because I don't want to use a backrest. I know it drops you down some from stock, but my question for Sundowner users is does it move you any closer to or further from the handlebars?

Have read that it moves you a little forward, towards the bars. Being taller that would not work for me so got a CC Sport Tour seat from DrVtwin instead. Costs a lot less also...

mmmm.... Being moved forward wouldn't be a good thing.... Is that the seat you speak of in your sig pic? Good lower back support?

Stock Heritage seat is hard to beat imo.

Lower back support, sits low and moves you back. I got it because I ride 2up 50% and its not a couch looking 2up seat. The gf says it is more comfortable than the stocker also. Sig is stock seat - need to update it.

Search Sport Tour on this site and you will find lots of positive reviews.

I'll check into this seat further, I like that it moves you back some. Thanks for the info.

Agreed, they're really not all that bad at all, I've had much worse stock seats. The trouble with the stocker for me is on longer rides my lower back starts to ache bad and I need more lower back support. I'd get a back rest, but I really don't care for the looks of them.

Got a Sundowner for my 07' Fatboy.

Much more "backrest" type of seat. However, if you need a backrest for long distances, then you need one. NO seat will replace that fact.

I am 5'7"... the seat kept me in the same place fore-aft, it sat a good 3/4" lower and was "firmer" than my stock seat. Also, the neck is narrower so it did not push out on my thighs. Just finished a 3k ride with the seat. Needed a sheepskin, needed a gel pad but didn't have one so I ended up playing with up th 3" of foam under the sheepskin. I get around 50-70 miles on the seat before I start getting azz burn from it.

Having tried several types now, and seen a bunch, I know the one for me to buy is the Mustang seat. It offers the cutout for the tail-bone, is cushy enough, has a bit of backrest from the pillion for the short rides, and can have a bolt on backrest added for the long rides.

Like I said to begin with, and I have lived with a lower back injury for 30 years, if you need a back rest, then you need it. Choose to own a 10 mile bar hopper that looks cool, or add the backrest and take it for some distance. Look for something with a detachable backrest.

I have a Mustang touring solo with removable backrest and could not be happier. It's a world of difference from the stock seat as anyone who has one will tell you.

Thanks for the input, looking into the Mustang seats as well sounds like a good idea. For me, the added lower back support I got from the Sundowner seat I tried out would be sufficient enough over the stock seat for the distances I travel. Good to know that it did not move you fore or aft.
