Question New Guy On The Block

Greetings all ~

I am new to the scene and am looking into buying my first bike since retiring from the Navy a few months ago. I have limited riding experience on dirt and no street experience. Most of my friends ride and have convinced me to give it a shot. After looking and talking to numerous friends and determining what kind of riding I will be doing most often, I have decided on a Softtail Heritage and am actively shopping for one right now. My question to the group of experts that are on here is this: I know there are carbureted and fuel injected models; what are the pros and cons of each?

Thanks for all the help folks~

A Heritage is a great choice. Of a carburetor is cheaper to fix than fuel injection. But FI is less hassle to most degree's. Plus the new the bike the better the technology. I would go for 07-up so you can get the benefits of the 96 CI plus the 6 speed. Good luck in your choice. Either way you will be happy with the Heritage. Just a little partial I guess.

Welcome to the forum, welcome to the next chapter in your life, welcome to a new family.
My advice, use the Harley Davidson Test Ride program offered at the moment and test every bike that you feel like. At the end of that you will probably know which one you want. Its like with woman...you will know...you will fall in love with one of the bikes and then you will know which one you want to buy

good luck

I agree 100%. I went in to buy the new 2010 Wide Glide. When I got there, they said I should test ride it first...so I did. When I got back, I wasn't happy at all with the fit of the bike. So I test rode the 2010 Fat Boy Lo and was soooooooooooooo much more comfortable on it. It's more like my Deluxe. Bought it instead. Thank god I took that test ride.

And take the riding course too. You should be able to get them to throw that in for free when you buy the bike.

Welcome to the forums and the Heritage is a great choice. I own an '08 and love it to death. I agree with 03sporty, that it may be wiser to stick with a more current model and get the advantages of EFI, in addition to the 96 inch engine and the 6 speed transmission. That being said, I know friends who absolutely love their carbureted models, I think in part, because they are a little more forgiving, if you will, if the owner decides to do mods to engine, exhaust, etc. For example, I have friends that drilled out the baffles of their stock exhaust and that was/is much less of a problem with the carbureted models than it is with the EFI models. Changing exhaust and air flow components with EFI models requires a little more thought, as well as money. Just a few ideas for you to consider. Talking to any of the service workers at your local HD dealership, might also be helpful to you. Good luck.

i have the 09 flstc, and i agree with everyone on 07 or newer bit... I ride with a few older ones, and there really isn't much difference in power, but 6th gear is nice on those highway rides.
