Well Mr. Brown sucks and is lost in space. Tracked the tire to distribution center 300 miles from here and has been there sense the 4th. Hope the General gets here soon cause the Metzler on the rear has a plug in it and is worn out at 4100 miles. Third tire in 12,000 miles and everything cks out to me. Got my fingers crossed and hope I like it like the people running the taxi tire.
+10psi at each end 40f/50r shifted the onset of the wobble to 75 mph.
Adding a140lb passenger shifted the onset to 80 mph.
I am not sure what this means, but it is new information.
It is a certainty now.
I have changed out the Austone tire for a Metzler 880 in 160/80B-16, reset the tire pressures to 35 psi front and back, the and the wobble has completely disappeared. 0- 100 mph and not a sign of the wobble, one up or two.
I don't know the rationale behind this issue, but the results in this instance are certain.
I know that others have also experienced the same issue with this mod so it is also not unique to my bike or to my tire.
I took the dynabeads out of my Austone then computer balanced. This raised the wobble speed 10mph. Then added Ride-On. This raised it a little more, now able to do 85 without it being too loose. I start getting trouble at 90 now, which I don't really need to do very often. Funny how some can ride them over 100mph without balancing and no wobble.
I'd suspect one of their molds isn't right.
Several have been reported to. Some other tire makes have had wobbles, but often it turns out to be front ends, front tires, or suspension issues that once addressed, clear up the problem - especially Hondas.
It appears that tires that wobble usually seem to have soft, tall sidewalls. Too soft is evidently a bad thing, even though we flex the sidewall as we corner. Some are running light truck tires to good success, for the stiffer sidewall. It's always best to check the Darkside chart.
I'm sure I've posted it several times in here before; I'm gonna quit looking it up for people. http://darkside.nwff.info/
I've tried clicking it a few times. Brian even sent it to me in a PM, but I keep getting an error. Not for lack of trying but the only internet I have is my phone. Most websites to include this one are blocked at work. If I'm asking something that's in an external link my apologies. I will wait until I get internet at home.
Sorry to hear some are havin issues with the Austone. Mines great at 38 psi, I've got a Mitchelin Commander on the front and love it also. I'll have to get up to some serious speed and see if mine wobbles.
just made a run up to Reno & back to Street Vibrations, from sea level to over 7500ft thru the passes, took Hwy 88 going up & Hwy 4 coming back, miles & miles of tight twisties & would run it up to 85 on the straights with no issues.
it sucks to hear that others are having issues with the Austone trying to hit triple digit speeds, i don't run my cruiser that hard i guess, when i feel that need for speed i jump on my BRP
