'02 Heritage Classic, carb. 38 mpg now. Did stage 1 (Air Cleaner & SEII's & rejetting) kept fixin' it and got her down to around 30-32 mpg. Kept on fixin' & got her back up to 38 and that seems to be all I can squeeze out. That's combo in town and hwy. No long highway trips to check the difference.

I'm getting 34 in mostly city riding. If I'm doing mostly highway riding it goes up to 46 or so.

ORIGINAL: Brian Rhoden

Tires aired....check. Ride below 80....check. Ride downhill.....not too many hills here in middle GA. Loose weight.....trying. I normally ride around 60-65. Haven't needed to ride on interstates (70mph limit). Only thing I can think of is getting it on a Dyno and see what the mechs can come up with. How much $ will that cost?
Local indy. I go to in Michigan charges $65/hr and says it's supposed to take around an hour to dyno turn a bike w/carb. Took over 1-1/2 for mine and they only charged me for the hour.
Well worth it.

Cool. Thanks for all the info/advice guys. Next time I'm at my local dealership, will ask one of the mechs about a dyno run and check the price.

2005 heritage with almost 17,000 miles stage 1 .....fill up at 180 miles or so LOL and avg 45mpg...That is riding every day to and from work with speeds up to 80mph...New and stock was getting 38-40mpg....now this bike is EFI ..plus we ride 2 -up on weekends and it does not seems to matter that much...

are you trying to get off the stop lights real fast and then stopping at the next light.. or riding the brake too much...Not sure how the race tuner would do for me.. but it runs great with just the normal download on it...I ride in houston ....so if you drive under 65 you get ran over...

No, I don't accelerate fast off of stop signs/lights. Just ride normal, I guess. Maybe "GrandPa-ish". Also, when I start to slow down, I do not downshift, I press in the clutch and basically coast until I need to use my brakes. Then shift to lower gears and keep on goin'.

Brian, I get between 42-51mpg depending on average speed, with stock EFI and SE pipes. If I spend a lot of time driving 45-50mph it will go right up near 50mpg. But from reading your original post I'm not sure you're figuring your mileage right. You said you're getting about 170 miles per tank, but how many gallons did it take to fill up your tank ? I doubt if it took 5 gallons, but your figure of 34 mpg and 5 gallons gives 170 miles. If you only took 4 gallons your mileage would have been much better, around 42 mpg. You need to know exactly how many gallons you used to really figure your gas mileage. I have never put much over 4 gallons in my bike, even when the low fuel light comes on. When you say "tank full" you didn't really mean
all 5 gallons or so did you ? You may be getting the same mileage as the rest of us. Just a thought, as usual your mileage may vary. One other thing is do you let the bike idle for a long time when you start it up, warming it up ? That will really kill your mileage, you're getting zero mpg while idling.

That sounds a bit on the low side Brian! Was that a local bike? If the carb was jetted for high altitude you would have a fuel mix problem. You should be able to tell by pulling the plugs and checking to see if you have a nice brown color. Too much fuel will be dark and maybe sooty. Use anti seize on the plug threads.

Which fuel system do you have installed with your pipes. Sert, PC or fuelpak?
