2005 Heritage Softail Classic, EFI, Stage 1 air intake, Stage 1 reflash, stock mufflers with 3/8 diameter hole drilled in the core plug. Mileage with normal riding (around town, 60 mph country, 70+ freeway) is between 43 and 47 mpg. I can easily get 200 miles before refueling without worry, but I usually refuel around 150 miles, and take about 3.3 gallons.
Mikester48: I haven't noticed how many gallons I've put in, but when it's full, the gas is almost at the top. Not so much that when I put my cap back on, fuel spills out. I want to say it's about/a little over 4 gallons. When I fire her up, I let her idle for about 1 min...maybe less, with the choke pulled out 3/4 of the way. Then, I ride to get out of my subdivision (1/2 mile maybe) and then I push the choke in.
softail2005: I purchased the bike for a gentleman is SW Georgia. He had the V&H pipes put on and he did mention something about "rejetting" the carb or was it replacing the jets...can't remember. I do not know if he had the SERT, PC or Fuelpak installed. I have taken the seat off (before washing) and all I saw was the battery.
But, all I know is that when my trip meter gets close to 170 miles, I have less that 1/4 tank of gas and not using the reserve. Maybe I should wait for the low fuel light to come on, switch to reserve (I believe that gives me a gallon left, correct?) and see what my trip meter shows then.....on yea, and be close to a gas station when I do this.
I just completed a 7000 mile cross country tour and got an avg. of 40 MPG at avg. speeds of 75-85.......The faster you go the more fuel it will use.........55-60 will be your best MPG
Brian, next time you fill up just do the math using the number of gallons you put in the tank, I bet you'll find it is the same as the rest of us. Besides that when you have a bike that looks as good as yours, who cares ? My old Kawasaki 1500 used to get around 35-38 mpg and I was happy, didn't know any better. My Heritage always gets better mileage than the Kaw ever did, even on the worst day.
