The only way he could trade it in would be at a dealer. I doubt that a used Fat Boy would be equal the cost of a new Street Glide. His only hope would be to find a used Street Glide that's the same price.

Sounds like a cool idea to me. $1800 bucks.Cheaper than new bike. Plus bags. Hard bags are going to be 1k.

It can be done depending on the parts cost.

Memphis Shades Batwing Fairing $ 300 (no radio)
or
Dragon fly Fairing or Dead Center Cycles Fairing $ 800 ( with radio)

Cycle Visions or Sumax Bagger Tail Bag Mounts $ 400

Used Hard Bags off E Bay $500 -1000 ( depending on your luck)
or
Calvary Fiberglass Hard Bags $ 600

They also make the rear fender inserts to close the gap between the bags and fender

Go on the Cycle Visions or Sumax sites they have pictures

I have started down this path with my Deluxe. Next step is duals and then hardbags. I love the shotgun looks but they are a no go with true hardbags. Seems like everyone is "slammin" their SG - I jsut started with the lowest (at the time) bike and went from there. Of course it is a chick bike - but who would mention that

Im on my second Fatboy and have owned a SG in between the two. John I'd consider saving some cash to go with what you would spend to convert the Fatboy to somewhat of a bagger and then try to trade your bike and cash for a SG.There is really no comparison in the ride, handling, and comfort of the SG compared to a Softail.Especially is you're racking up the miles.

Yes you can add the fairing and bags and all the bs that make a bagger a bagger but it doesn't have the fit and finish of an actual bike that rolls out of the factory.I think you'd be disappointed in the time and money invested for what you end up with rather than just waiting or whatever you need to do to get the actual bike you want.A softail turned into a semi-SG will be nothing like an actual SG or any touring model. All just my opinion of course.Good luck whatever you decide.
