Hi from New Zealand I have been following your threads on fitting a Dunlop Elite 3 250/40R x18,to my 2008 Rocker.
Finally bought one yesterday and took the bike into the shop and left it there only to get a call today saying "it wont fit".
They reckon that it will hit the lower belt guard and rub hard against the belt itself.Help !! What did you all have to change or alter to make this tire fit? Would appreciate any help as I now own this tire.

Tire fits fine. I am riding on my 2nd one now. Find another shop. Your best bet would be to get a service manual and some simple tools and see for yourself.
I mounted mine on a 18x8.5 which would stretch the tire further.. It does come close to the belt, however if you adjust it to the left it will be fine... Find another shop.......
I mounted a 250 Elite3 on my stock 18" wheel with no problems what so ever. It's a close fit to the belt, at a little less than a quater inch and same with the belt guard, but no contact. Don't know what else to suggest.... Did the shop install it and confirm contact?? Because I was convinced by looking at the Tire and placing it in the empty wheel well that there was NO WAY it would fit, but once on the rim it fit like a Smack in the Mouth! Keep us posted!!
First off this was my first tire change....... At first, I thought Oh sh**t... because the belt was up against the tire. I then looked up underneath and realized the belt had moved over while it was loose. Once I got the rear tire aligned with the adjustment bolts, I spun the wheel a few times and the belt moved over and settled in a position which was off the tire. All good since then. It should work.
Got bike back today with Elite 3 fitted. What the shop was doing was holding the new tire up in place and saying it wasnt going to fit. Once it was on the rim the shape of the tire changed and the rest is history. Thanks for your input guys it gave me the confidence to overide them and tell them to go ahead and try it.
My new Elite 3, doesn't look nearly as big on the bike. Left shop with it on and got a couple of clicks down the road and took off from a stop sign turning ride and the back end did the big slide out-new tyre!
