I didn't take care of my hearing when I was younger. My rationale to not wearing ear plugs 10 years ago when I could still hear well was that I had ridden in enough helicopters and fired enough guns that wind noise wasn't going to bother me.
At 62 I'm finding myself saying "say again?" a lot. I'm starting to wear the plugs so I don't lose any more.
HUH! what's that you said ??? Nah! no joke.. have some form of tinitus myself from many years of industrial work.. xtra six years of riding Harley with aftermarket pipes and ear protection when I remember has'nt helped things... titinus isnt reversable and has no cure.. wonder how many decibels come out those pipes at 80mph four foot from your ears ??? plus wind noise ???
I have ridden with ear plugs for several years now. I think everything just sound's better with them in. I hear exhaust, no engine or trans noises, or wind. I can also hear important sounds like sirens. Try them.
I was going to say the same thing about the exhaust, and also can talk to your self and hear it well.keeks you alert in heavy traffic
FWIW, if it just started, it should subside over a couple days. Friend of mine fired a Desert Eagle from his bathroom to scare a montain lion from his horses (no, he didn't shoot the cat) but the dumbass forgot his earplugs. Lasted a week. Thought he busted a drum.
I have some hearing issues from my front row ACDC and Metallic days. Went to an ENT, turns out he rides as well.
Best thing I found is go to an audiologist, have some custom ear molds made to make the plugs. Etymotic musicians ears. Can't even see em, fit perfectly, and come with different dB reducers to swap. You can still hear horns, sirens etc but when you're done riding, you won't believe the diff.
Also use em when I fly which is frequent.
Prob with this chit is once the hearing's gone (even at high freqencies), it's gone for good.
