niv, that is a great list. Gives me a good place to start.

Love my Street Glide but two years after ankle surgery and some complications I'm still having some trouble with the weight. More of an issue riding with an inexperienced passenger who likes to move around. Not wanting to get rid of the SG so looking at alternatives until I do get healed up. Still think a Deluxe with fairing, lowers and bags would be nice and would be quite a bit lighter. Not sure about seat height yet. Fatboy may just stay with single disc unless I can figure out touring sliders that will work with it.

What about your hub ? Most are not set up for dual disks.

Did you drill/tap your stock hub?

thanks,

T.

Good point WKNDS, the hub. Meant to write about it earlier and forgot...

The OEM hub of the FXS is useless for this application, the right side is not suited for tapping it. I bought the bike used and incidentally the previous owner also had considered upgrading to double discs and had already bought a hub and spokes. I have no idea what make it is.

Also as word of advice: Replacing the hub was more trouble than it would warrant IMHO. Not only is it hard to find someone who can properly build wheels, in the case of my bike (FXS), the rims are of the "soft" lip style, not the stepped one. It was either this, or the hub, but the spokes that should have fit the application didn´t, which I only noticed when two were coming loose. Then I had to get custom spokes, quite expensive, and another rebuilding of the wheel... So now I am looking into replacing the spoked wheels with mag ones, a bit of a pity as I like the look, but probably less troublesome in the end.

Best, niv

Looking at Enforcer wheels from 15 Street Glide. Set up for dual rotors but not sure of hub widths and bearings. I'll have to grab some and measure stuff. Wheel width is the same 3.5" as many Softails and the 19" wheel uses a lower profile tire to keep outside diameter very similar. Looks like a bearing or axle swap will be needed along with shaving the rotor mount on the wheel. That's if I kept single caliper. Trying to figure out how to get dual calipers. Then I'll figure out the wheels. Itll be a winter project for sure.

Once I cam get sliders, shocks, brakes all figured out then I'll start on the fairing. I'll probably be using 14+ Touring. Just gotta get wiring for Softail and Touring to see if I can use the Touring gauges. But, that be something all together different.

Here is what I used, many have variations, depending e.g. on color.

- brembo calipers: any 2008 upwards touring caliper should work (also VROD), they have various parts numbers, depending on the year.
- 11.8" discs 44947-08A (one type, there are many 11.8" rotors obviously)
- fork sliders off a touring 00-13, RHS 46502-09 G5 E31-00 R G5B3-10-R, LHS 46495-09 G5 E31-00 L G5B3-10-L (these were chrome, had them powder coated)
- 41mm for rebuild kit drag specialties DS0403-0022
- fender mounting adapter 59013-02A (also chrome I believe, can get an aftermarket one from drag specialties for half, I believe)
- progressive fork springs 11-1131
- master cylinder assembly 44985-10D (all black)
- banjo bolts and washers (within these I believe there is even a mistake in harley´s parts numbers. They confuse two sizes of gaskets or so. luckily I needed both, so no issue at the end)

4x mounting bolt calipers 44160-00
2x banjo bolt caliper 41783-08
2x banjo bolt brake line 41750-06B
2x bleeder screw caps 42853-06
10x gasket 41751-06A
10x gasket 41731-01
banjo screw HCU in 5001
banjo screw HCU out 5002

- brake lines: these I ordered from a german shop, the specs would roughly be as follows:

at the master cylinder the fitting is of 10mm size (touring) with a slight angle (called type 002 at this german shop)
into the ABS/HCU unit the fitting is 11.2mm, no angle (type 100)
I indicated a total length of 105cm for this piece, but it is heavily dependent on your handle bars.

out of the ABS/HCU unit the fitting is 10mm, no angle (type 100), going into a splitte for the dual discs. length 50cm.
out of the splitter there are two brake lines, ending in 10mm fittings for the calipers with a 90° angle (type 019). length I indicated was 58cm but that is WAY TOO LONG.

hope this helps, best niv
Are the only ABS parts the bearings (wheel hub) and hoses/banjos that go into the ABS unit? basically can this part list be used for non ABS bikes? was just wondering if the axle was still 25mm, and it looks like you just got the bottom fork sliders and added them to your uppers? I need to replace both forks and surdyke have them preassembled, are those just a direct bolt with softails?

Without ABS things are considerably easier. Try to find a take-off from a touring bike, from top to bottom: Brake lever assembly including master cylinder, brake lines, calipers and discs (11.8" dia). Unless you have a stock handlebar, this could fit "out of the box".
No change to the axle on my bike. I only got touring for sliders (and a drag specialties rebuild kit), nothing else, but not sure how this aligns with any preassembled setup from surdyke. Any parts numbers to share?
Best, niv
