heartland kit question
I have been searching for an answer, but can't find anything...
I bought my 02 FXST standard with a 180 heartland kit already on it...
Can this be reverted back to stock with the dovetail and struts without issue?
Is there anything I need to do other than mount the struts and fender, lights, etc...
I love the look and whatnot, but the wife really wants to go riding and I would mind having the option to go back and forth when wanted.

Have you thought about the Heartland passenger seat option?

ya, but that's very pricey just for a seat... Would need the slotted struts too anyway...
I would be able to find all the original stuff for less if I look hard enough. ;-)
Not in any real rush... it would be a winter project most likely.

As long as you make the taillight/turnsignal wiring/connections with change out in mind, it wouldn't be a "few minutes and done" but could be done. As you get used to changing back and forth, the time to convert over would shorten.
Not sure about the splash guard for the Heartland vs. stock though?

Not sure, haven't really go in there to look around at what exactly was done...
But I remember seeing some pics about original pieces of frame or something being cut off...
Wondering if the fender and whatnot will go back on???
And will the original dovetail fit the 180???
Questions, questions! ;-)

I think the fender would fit. You usually have final drive belt clearance problems running a wider tire before fender clearance problems.
Not sure about the frame mod to fit the Heartland? Maybe it was trimmed to allow the splash guard?

Find some stock frame rails that have been cut off and weld them back on.Probably some one one here has the one's they cut off.

I could do that, but it would defeat the purpose of allowing to go back and forth with the styles...
They are just for fender and seat strength anyway, aren't they?
I could just stiffen up the fender where it mounts to the struts, I would think, to allow a 2-up seat, just for the weight of a second person.
I really need to get in there and just look and see exactly what they did on the install. ;-)

Why would you buy the bike if you wanted your wife to ride?
You are better off selling the struts you have and seeing if Heartland will help you on the price for struts and second seat. My wife is very comfy on the Heartland second seat.
