Default Arlen Ness Big Sucker

I'd like to get some info on the big sucker. I haven't done anything to my air intake yet because I'm unsure which direction I want to go. What's involved in the Big Sucker? Will I have to get a power commander or some other fuel controller? How much should I expect to have to pay for the whole setup, and is there a better option for less $$? I'm on a pretty tight budget. All I've done so far is put on a set of SE slip-ons.

Thanks in advance for any info!

I've got a Ness Big Sucker ordered and on it's way for my '06 FXST...it's similar to the Screaming Eagle stage one air filter setup...I gave a little over $100.00 for it new (eBay). I've also got a set of V&H Straightshots and a PCIII that I'm planning to install along with the Ness Sucker. The way it was explained to me is that when you add intake/exhaust performance parts on a FI bike, you should also get a fuel management system (PCIII,SERT,V&H Fuelpak) or at a minimum you should get a re-flash (reprogramming) on your ECM due to a overly-lean condition resulting from the extra airflow the engine will be taking in/letting out. Harleys run lean out of the box stock and by improving intake/exhaust flow you lean it out just that much more. By re-flashing the ECM (or re-jetting the carb on non-FI bikes) your insuring against a overly lean (and hotter running) engine AND you're getting the best performance possible.

I also have the AN big sucker, if your going to install it yourself, make sure you either have an appointment for a re-map (if your fuel injected) or have another fuel management ready. I wouldn't ride it too far without, your going to be very lean.

I had the dealer install both for me so they couldn't say I was riding around without the download if a warrantee issue came up.

I put a big sucker on mine last month and it was very easy to do even though the first one that was ordered was the wrong one. It seems that Custom Chrome had miss marked it. Either way it was very easy to do. I would go with the big sucker as it's cheaper to purchase and you never have to replace the filter unlike the SE stage 1 which comes with a paper filter which is required to be replaced.

Once the big sucker is on you will need a PC or get the dealer to download the new software for you. Mine charged me $198 after taxes, shop fee and parts/labor.

One thing I would have done different though is to spend the little extra money and get the big sucker kit with the chrome back piece. You can see it slightly and I wish I would have gotten the other one.

Hope this helps.

I had the dealer put a Big Sucker on my 07 Road Glide last week and they re-mapped it. She works just fine. Ya hit the throttle and you can hear that thing sucking in the air!
